Kirby invited a number of faculty members to prepare essays focusing on the broad questions facing liberal education in hopes of sparking discussion of the intelligent goals of general education for the early part of the 21st century. The following essays were part of an effort for further collective deliberation by the Faculty before establishing the new program in general education.
